Profile

Sakura Suzuhara is the only person in WILLE who addresses Shinji with courtesy and respect. During the attack of Evangelion Mark.04C, she is happy to be on the bridge to witness the operation. Despite her enthusiasm for WILLE's work, she does not seem to approve certain choices like placing the DSS Choker on Shinji.

Sakura does not look like her brother at all. She has long brown hair and fair skin. She wears a unique uniform in the WILLE consisting of a white and gray dress with a pocket and dark legging stopping below the knees. She also wears a black beret and a blue scarf around her neck. Apparently, she does not seem to know about her brother's whereabouts.

She holds both conflicting views towards Shinji Ikari, accusing him of bringing misfortune for them and himself for piloting an Evangelion. She is willing to shoot him to stop him for boarding an Evangelion. She is in total distress as she speaks these words, crying and shaking the gun she is holding, closing her eyes as she fires the gun. When Misatos affirms her position to let him go, she accuses him of being both a savior and a destroyer and they have no other choice to stop him.

History

Evangelion: 1.0 You Are (Not) Alone

During the fight between the Fourth Angel and Evangelion Unit-01, Sakura is injured and is hospitalized for a period of time much to the misfortune of Tōji Suzuhara, her older brother. She leaves the hospital some time after the day Evangelion Unit-03 arrived in Japan. That day, Tōji does not come to class to go be with his sister.

Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo

It is revealed that she survived the Near Third Impact, and her role is expanded as she has become a medical officer for WILLE, holding the rank of Second Lieutenant. When Shinji wakes up aboard the ship, Sakura is responsible for monitoring his health and brings him to the deck to find Misato Katsuragi. After the Wunder takes off, Sakura continues to accompany Shinji to his cell. There she introduces herself, and he realizes that fourteen years have passed since he was last awaken. Shinji ends up running away with the Evangelion Mark.09 when the Wunder is attacked by NERV. She's the only person to treat Shinji with a reserved amount of kindness during his stay in the AAA Wunder, and desperately asks him not to pilot an Evangelion unit.

Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon A Time

Sakura is first seen by Shinji, when he wakes up from the taser shot delivered by Asuka, she is teary eyed when she sees that Shinji is awaken and slaps him in the face and berates him because he piloted an Evangelion again and run away when she told him not to. She calls him an idiot and cry over Shinji. Right after this, Asuka signs the documents of responsibility of BM-03's monitoring and restrainment. She explains that this time Shinji won't use the DSS Choker and will be placed in Chamber 2, but is surprised to see him return to Wunder, after all MAGI Copy did get the results of the explosion of the choker near him, she calls the experience a trauma. Alongside the signing, Sakura also receives the Village-3 visual records and personal correspondence from Toji, inside a flowery pattern envelope. A photo of Bunzaemon Horaki, Hikari Suzuhara, Tsubame Suzuhara and Toji Suzuhara with this message on the back: "To Sakura with love! Your Big Bro". After receiving the photo, she starts crying, but the nature of it is unknown.

During Operation Yamato, she remains aboard the Wunder where she assist others in the medical bay. She returns further forward after Gendō Ikari escapes aboard Evangelion 13, taking Unit-01, into the Minus Space. Shinji wishes to find Unit-01 and confront his father. However, Midori Kitakami strongly object to the boy piloting again, but is surprised to see that Sakura actually shoots near Shinji's feet. They both point a gun at him. Sakura does not wish to kill him, but to injure him enough so that he is not able to pilot it anymore. She fires, but Misato stands in to protect Shinji and is shot in abdomen. The Captain states that she is still responsible for Shinji's custody and will entrust everything to him. Sakura is still against it until Midori shoots her gun telling her to let it go. She drops her gun as Mari arrives, still crying over the situation. Misato is treated by Sakura as she talks with Shinji for the last time. Afterwards, she helps the other members of the WILLE evacuate the Wunder when it is decided to use it to create the Spear of Gaius. In particular, she takes care of several WILLE injured members to help them reach the Nekozame-class orbital assault craft. She embarks with them and leaves the Wunder in a capsule that arrives near Village-3.

Episode 1 - Wanting to Help

In the clinic at the Temporary Base, Sakura is tending to an injured Nikke. Sakura had prepared a meal for her and she enjoyed it, however she still feels unwell. The Nikke's wound has opened up again and Sakura decides to check on it. Unfortunately, she is unfamiliar with how to treat Nikkes and assures her that Pepper will be here soon to treat her. She starts to feel blue because she wasn't able to help.

The Protagonist visits the Temporary Base in the hopes of seeing Sakura. He stands on the Admire's deck while viewing the crimson sea and bumps into the medic. He can tell her spirits are low, but has heard of how helpful she has been when it comes to providing support. She's surprisingly not tired, but she admits she hasn't done much aside from managing supplies. What she has accomplished pales in comparison to those on the front lines. He assures her that her willingness to help is more than enough for them and Pepper has praised her for her good deeds. Despite that, Sakura feels she hasn't done enough because she's not a fighter nor does she know how to treat Nikkes. She wants to be like Pepper, and has an idea of how to get to that point. She desires to learn how to provide medical aid to Nikkes. The commander suggests letting Pepper teach her, but she worries that the nurse has enough on her plate as is with all the injured that come to see her. Sakura is aware that he is very friendly with many other Nikkes and she hopes he knows at least one other doctor. Fortunately, he has someone in mind, however they will need to travel to the Ark to see her, something that shouldn't be a problem. She's very eager to meet this Nikke and learn from her.

Episode 2 - A Mentor with Closed Eyes

Having visited the Ark for the first time now, Sakura is overwhelmed by how bustling it is. Despite that, she enjoys how everyone looks happy. During their conversation, a woman bumps into them and after apologizing to them... the woman staggers back and falls over. Now that she's out cold, both Sakura and the protagonist start to worry about her. Fortunately, they are close to the hospital so they can bring her there immediately...

The two reach the hospital and they run into Mary, who quickly grasps the situation. They lay the patient down and Sakura explains how she ended up in this state. She diagnoses her as having a brain hemorrhage, an assessment Mary agrees with. With her life on the line, Mary wants to take her into intensive care as soon as possible. She is aware that the two have come to see her, but they will have to wait for a bit until she is finished. Given the circumstances, the commander is willing to wait. Mary pushes the stretcher into the operating room and the two wait briefly for her to finish.

After Mary finishes up, she finally gets to properly introduce herself to Sakura as a member of Seraphim. The doctor is aware of how useful Sakura is from Pepper and is willing to share with her the medical knowledge she seeks. As for how the patient is doing, because the two were able to bring her to the hospital quickly, the operation was a complete success and she is fine. That being said, Mary was surprised to learn that Sakura knew more than she let on, to the point that she comes off as a trained professional. Sakura admits that where she comes from, she's a medical officer who treats human patients. She wants to learn how to treat Nikkes so she can be more helpful to everyone. Mary assures her that becoming a doctor is quite the challenge in itself and her heart is definitely in the right place. Mary is willing to train her how to treat Nikkes and she believes Sakura will be an easy student to teach. She wants her to consider this an information exchange. While she trains Sakura to tend to Nikkes, she will help Mary care for humans. With a deal reached, Sakura informs the protagonist that she will be studying here for a while, something that shouldn't cause any issues. Ready to begin their new partnership, the two doctors are looking forward to learning from each other.

Episode 3 - Overdoing it?

As some time passes, the protagonist visits the hospital to check on Sakura. He learns that she is in the middle of an operation so he decides to wait for her to finish. He has many questions for her and it doesn't take too long for the lamp to turn off and for the doors to the operating room to open. Mary and a man exit the room and she reveals to him that the surgery was a resounding success. The patient should be moving to her room shortly so he will have to wait a little longer.

After everything is settled, Sakura and Mary congratulate each other on a job well done. The two have learned a great deal from each other with the latter having a better idea about how to operate on humans while the former feels more confident she can treat Nikkes. She even has modified her approach to do so. The commander was glad everything worked out and Mary attributed their success to Sakura's expert diagnosis and masterful surgery skills. It was a miracle the two found the patient when they did and it was because they were quick in delivering her that things ended up as well as they did. He realizes that they operated on the person who collapsed in front of them. Mary wants to move her to her room so the two can chat while she's gone.

Now that Mary is no longer within earshot of them, Sakura admits that she worries that she's not getting enough rest. Though Nikkes don't normally need to worry about that, the protagonist is also concerned about her wellbeing. Sakura hopes that he can convince Mary to take it easy if she needs to, though he's curious why she joined the doctor during the surgery. Given that there are a lot of patients at the hospital, Sakura wanted to help Mary ease her workload and treat those who needed it. She feels confident enough to treat humans and it helps put her mind at ease. An alarm rings in Sakura's pocket, signaling that her break is over. She wants to return to studying with a book Mary made specifically for her. Sakura appreciates all the doctor has done for her, despite how busy she is, and she wants to repay her kindness. The commander reminds her that the surgery is over and he realizes that she too is pushing herself very hard. She wants to support those who have done the same for her and she assures him that she's not tired in the slightest. He suggests not to over do it and she heads off to get some more studying done.

By himself, the protagonist notices how similar the two are in their work ethic. If he had never met them before, they could be easily mistaken for sisters.

Episode 4 - The Reason for Overdoing

Once again at the hospital, Mary shares with the commander that she's concerned about Sakura. He too feels that she is pushing herself too hard. Mary understands her pure heart and her drive to save everyone she can, but she's worried that the medical officer is likely to faint at this rate. He also expresses his worries about Mary in the same breath. While she appreciates his own concerns about her, she is a Nikke so this has less of an effect on her. Because she is a human, this poses a bigger risk to Sakura. Mary wants him to convince her to take it easy and he decides to speak with her about it.

On his way to the hospital again, the protagonist sees Sakura talking with another Nikke. Sakura had operated on her and it's because of her that the Nikke is still alive. The medical officer doesn't want her patient returning to her in such a terrible state, however it appears she's less concerned about her wellbeing so long as Sakura is there to treat her if she needs it. The Nikke feels better than before, though Sakura warns her about making sudden movements. She apologizes for her actions and admits this is the first time she has been treated like a human and by a human as well. She wants to give Sakura a hug and though she appears to be adverse to them, she reveals that her request caught her off guard and she's more than eager to embrace her. The Nikke can't thank her caretaker enough for all she has done for her, but she herself also wants to express her gratitude. The Nikke is ready to reunite with her squad and is more motivated to fulfill her dream of fighting for humanity.

After the Nikke bows and runs off, the commander marvels at the beautiful scene he had just witnessed. He gives Sakura a tissue to wipe her eyes with and he admits that she is far more dedicated than he initially thought. Sakura shares that back in her home world, she had witnessed many people under her care die right in front of her. Some vanished without a trace. She felt powerless and could only watch them meet their ends. Being able to save at least one person is enough to lift her spirits. Mary joins them, reassuring her efforts. It turns out that she too was also watching them and she confesses that from the moment the two met, she knew that Sakura was a true doctor. Because of how many lives she has saved, Mary is certain that Sakura is great at her profession. The protagonist agrees with her assessment. Sakura can't thank Mary enough for teaching her about Nikke care, only for the doctor to praise the commander for introducing each other in the first place. Though he finds it silly that the two are just looking for someone else to shift their gratitude towards, the two are happy that things went well and hope for more wonderful days to come. Sakura hopes a time will come where their talents won't be needed.

Episode 5 - Doctors' Oath

Sakura's final day under Mary's tutelage arrives. Once she finishes up here and says her goodbyes, she will return to the temporary base to resume her duties. The protagonist figures she would relax for a bit, but she assures him that she takes a short break every now and then. Back when she was starting out, others had said similar things to her. She actually feels more comfortable now that others aren't expressing their concerns for her probably because she refuses to listen to them. Sakura receives vitamins and snacks occasionally so she feels that there are those looking out for her and she believes the commander is the reason for them doing so. He clarifies that others are expressing their gratitude for her hard work. Despite all she has accomplished so far, Sakura wants to save even more lives. He will continue rooting for her so long as she remains in this world.

Before Sakura returns to the temporary base, Mary wishes to see her off. As a token of her appreciation, she also has some artificial flowers prepared for her. Needless to say, Sakura is shocked by the gesture. The commander coaxes her into taking them as they are proof of her efforts. Sakura pleads for Mary to rest every once in a while. She admits that's not going to be an easy feat to do, something Sakura also knows quite well. Though she tries to blame her inexperience, the two promise to relax when they need to. Sakura appreciates the flowers, but regrets not preparing something in return. Mary confesses that her being here was more than enough for her. She wishes she could join them at the base, but she has far too much to do here. Though Pepper is more than capable of handling things on her own, with the two working together, they can overcome anything. The two are a bit glum that they won't see each other again after the battle ends, but they will never forget the time they've spent together. Mary imparts to remember those she has saved if things get too tough and that should give her the strength to move forward. Sakura hopes she does the same and wants the commander to keep looking after her. Mary wants him to do the same for her. The two promise to not overwork themselves while he promises to watch over them.
